Week 9 Small Group (Monday). Focussing on Colossians 3:22-4:1
The slave and master relationship is hard for us to relate to, but the closest would be an employee-employer relationship. When we work at our job or in our home, whether we work for ourselves, our family or a small or large organisation, who do you work for? If the answer is an earthly boss, then Paul here wants to remind us that we have a master in heaven and that our true efforts are for Him and His purpose.↗️
The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. (Genesis 2:15)
Even in the Garden of Eden, we had to work. This work, as it is today is to bring glory and honour to God – in all that we do.
Our reward is the inheritance promised to us by our Lord and it is He who we are to focus on. In the four verses (22-24) "Lord" is mentioned 4 times – referring to our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our true Master. So, wherever we are, wherever we work, we are to bring Christ to our workplace.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (Colossians 3:17)
Keeping the thinking going...
What attributes should fill the hearts and minds of Christian workers?
Pray that God will strengthen us as we worship Him in all aspects of our daily life.
